Former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign was hit with some bad news. And it could…Read More →
Joe Biden is now the most likely Democrat opponent for Donald Trump in November.
Democrat voters are on the verge of nominating Biden because they consider him the strongest candidate to take on Donald Trump.
But Trey Gowdy sent Joe Biden running after this rude awakening.
As Great American Daily reports:
Joe Biden’s blowout victory in South Carolina reset the Democrat race as the establishment finally was forced to settle on Biden as their horse in the race against Bernie Sanders.
Biden roared out of South Carolina with some polls showing a ten-point bounce in just 24 hours.
But on Fox News, Trey Gowdy downplayed the Biden victory by pointing out that ever since the start of the campaign, Biden and his team identified South Carolina as their “firewall.”
“Joe had to win. And South Carolina was good to him because he’s been here a lot,” Gowdy explained.
Gowdy added that a conservative state like South Carolina was unfriendly terrain for a self-described “socialist” like Bernie Sanders.
“South Carolina was never going to vote for somebody that describes himself as a socialist,” Gowdy added.
But Gowdy offered a warning to Democrats.
Just because South Carolina voters rejected Bernie Sanders and his brand of anti-American socialism, it did not mean there was a groundswell of enthusiasm behind Joe Biden’s campaign.
“Among my Democrat friends, I don’t sense a lot of passion about Biden. It was an obligation. It was like watching all the people open Christmas gifts. You got to do it,” Gowdy told Fox. “He had to win … I mean, you and I watch sports. It’s a game that you’re expected to win and you had to win.”
Gowdy compared South Carolina Democrats viewing the rise of Sanders and socialism to “watching a chain smoker fill up his car with gas.”
Gowdy’s point about the lack of enthusiasm among rank and file Democrats for Biden underscores the key weakness of Biden’s campaign.
Had Democrat elites viewed Biden as a strong general election candidate, the coalescing that took place after South Carolina would have occurred months ago.
Instead, party leaders gave Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren and nearly 20 other Democrats the chance to prove their mettle as the establishment favorite in the race.
Biden’s candidacy was looked upon with such scorn by Democrat elites that party bigwigs were even willing to hold the door open for Mike Bloomberg’s late entry into the race and watched him spend $500 million dollars in an effort to buy off voters into lodging Bloomberg as the establishment alternative to Bernie Sanders.
And while it is true that an enthusiastic supporter’s vote counts the same as an unenthusiastic one, the candidate with the more fired up base turns out more voters on Election Day.
In a matchup with Donald Trump, the President’s base will hold the enthusiasm edge over Biden voters – as Trey Gowdy pointed out – and that could be the decisive factor in the election.
