Joe Biden has been sworn in. Many Americans are afraid about what that means. And…Read More →
When Joe Biden selected Kamala Harris as his running mate everyone figured it was only a matter of time until Joe Biden stepped down.
With the Democrats on the verge of taking total control of Washington all eyes are on this scenario.
And now Kamala Harris is about to be replaced by this Democrat.
As Black Eye Politics reports:
If Kamala Harris becomes Vice President on January 20 someone will have to fill the remaining two years of her Senate term.
Under California law, that selection falls to Governor Gavin Newsom.
All these interest groups and identity politics demographics know that whoever wins the 2022 election likely holds the seat for life so they pushed for a member of their tribe.
Facing this tremendous pressure Newsom could not afford to alienate allies as his authoritarian lockdown policies and hypocrisy in facing his own rules has Newsome staring down the barrel of a recall effort that is gaining steam.
With these political considerations in mind Governor Newsom selected California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to replace Harris if Harris becomes Vice President.
For all the Democrats bromides about how diversity is our strength Padilla is the first Hispanic Senator in California history.
“Through his tenacity, integrity, smarts and grit, California is gaining a tested fighter in their corner who will be a fierce ally in D.C., lifting up our state’s values and making sure we secure the critical resources to emerge stronger from this pandemic,” Newsom declared in announcing Padilla’s selection.
For his part, Padilla thanked Governor Newsom for the promotion and chance to spend the rest of his life in Washington fighting to impose socialism on America.
“I am honored and humbled by the trust placed in me by Governor Newsom, and I intend to work each and every day to honor that trust and deliver for all Californians,” Padilla wrote in a statement.
California’s other Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein also praised Newsome’s selection of Padilla.
“Crucially, Alex is someone who understands the many challenges that Californians are facing, and I believe he is very well-suited to fight for them for years to come. I also believe Alex brings a critically important voice to the Senate as the first Latino senator from California,” Senator Feinstein exclaimed.
But not everyone was thrilled with the selection.
Newsom faced tremendous pressure to appoint a black woman such as Congresswoman Karen Bass to the seat.
When Newsom went in another direction it raised the possibility that if Newsome faces a recall effort a portion of his political coalition may not be as willing to help him save his career.
And there is no guarantee Padilla will hold the seat indefinitely.
California has an all-party jungle primary where the top two challengers regardless of party advance to the General Election and there will be at least one high profile Democrat hat challenges Padilla.
