Barack Obama has no bigger goal in 2020 than defeating Donald Trump.
The former President is throwing all of his energy and resources into electing a Democrat next November.
But Barack Obama had a knot in the pit of his stomach when he saw this shocking poll result.
Black voters form the core of the Democrat Party’s coalition and were key to Obama’s two blowout victories.
Supercharged black turnout led Obama to carry states like North Carolina and Indiana in 2008 and hold Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in 2012.
Without Obama on the ballot in 2016, black turnout dipped.
And it helped cost Hillary Clinton in Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
In 2016, exit polls showed Donald Trump won eight percent of the black vote.
Outside of Barack Obama’s two elections, that was well within the historical norm for a Republican presidential candidate.
Thanks to the economic boom that has seen black unemployment sink to a historical low, the Trump campaign believes the President can make inroads with black voters and improve on his 2016 performance.
To that end, the campaign formed a Black Voices for Trump coalition to make sure the President’s message reaches black voters.
Democrats and members of the fake and corrupt news media sneered at the Trump campaign’s theory of the case.
That’s because liberals are 100 percent invested in the smear that President Trump is somehow a racist.
Fake news “journalists” and Democrats built this allegation on the backs of lies.
And to the shock of many on the left, there is evidence black voters are seeing through this stream of fake news media misinformation and are judging the President on his record.
In recent days, two polls – from Emerson College and Rasmussen – found 34 percent of black voters approved of the President’s job performance.
The Trump campaign highlighted these polls as evidence their play for black voters in 2020 held the possibility of bearing fruit.
Breitbart exclusively reported:
The Trump campaign celebrated the news.
“It might shock Democrats that support for President Trump is rising with Black Americans but it shouldn’t,” Trump campaign Principal Deputy Communications Director Erin Perrine said to Breitbart News. “Blacks are more prosperous than ever because of President Trump with record-low unemployment and rising paychecks…
…Perrine said the news would energize the coalition going into the president’s re-election effort for 2020.
“The Black Voices for Trump coalition will help get the facts and truth out there about the strength of America for Blacks under President Trump,” she said.
Donald Trump does not need to carry 34 percent of black voters to win re-election.
No Republican has won that high a percentage of the black vote in generations.
But even a modest increase in support from black voters will keep Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in the President’s column and put new states like Minnesota into play.
