Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Got Hit With Some Bad News About Her Political Future

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believed she was on track to be the brightest star in the Democrat Party.

But now all hell is breaking loose.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got hit with some bad news about her political future.

Every four years, the two major political parties stage a four-day nominating convention that serves as televised pep rallies.

How Democrats and Republicans allocate their primetime speakers lets Americans know how the top party officials stack up the pecking order within their ranks.

The most appealing voices and officials with the brightest future are given the plum roles when the broadcast networks – whose audiences number in the millions – cover the proceedings.

In 2020, the networks informed the DNC and RNC they would only cover one hour each night, as opposed to the two hours televised in past years.

This created a headache for Democrats as to how they would deal with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Ocasio-Cortez is immensely popular with the Democrat base, but Ocasio-Cortez is associated with policies such as the Green New Deal, defund the police, and a government takeover of healthcare – all wildly unpopular with the broader electorate.

But the socialist Congresswoman’s allies actively lobbied for her to get a primetime speaking role.

POLITICO reported, “On Friday afternoon, a fellow House member said people close to Ocasio-Cortez said she will get a primetime speaking role and deserves one because she is leading climate change policy for Biden, referring to the “unity” task force created by the former vice president and Sanders that she co-chaired. In response, Ocasio-Cortez spokeswoman Lauren Hitt declined to confirm or deny Ocasio-Cortez’s inclusion in the virtual program, but said, “No one close to the congresswoman said that.”

“It would be stupid not to give her” a slot, former Ocasio-Cortez advisor Corbin Trent told POLITICO. “She’s one of the best speakers the Democratic Party’s got.”

But Democrats who were aligned with Biden, such as former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, threw cold water on the idea of Ocasio-Cortez earning a primetime speaking role.

“I don’t think so,” Rendell stated.

“I think Bernie and Warren will speak, and they’ll represent the progressive wing of the party very ably.” Referring to more moderate members of Ocasio-Cortez’s House class, he added, “If you picked AOC, why wouldn’t you pick Katie Porter or why wouldn’t you pick Madeleine Dean or Mary Gay Scanlon?”

The resolution appeared to be that Ocasio-Cortez would speak, but would not appear in a primetime slot.

POLITICO reported that, “But early this evening, the drama over whether Ocasio-Cortez was in or out was settled. A source familiar with convention planning confirmed to POLITICO that the congresswoman “will have some role.”

Barack Obama’s primetime speech at the 2004 nominating convention – for better or worse – was essentially the kickoff for his 2008 Presidential campaign.

Democrats clearly do not believe Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is that kind of political star.
