Donald Trump is seeing his poll numbers rise ahead of his re-election campaign.
But the biggest threat to his victory was hiding in plain sight.
And a court just stepped in with this decision that is bad news for Trump in 2020.
As Great American Daily reports:
When Donald Trump launched his presidential campaign back in the summer of 2015, he made headlines across the nation for his comments about securing the border and building a wall with Mexico.
It was his signature campaign issue that catapulted him to the top of the Republican primary field and allowed him to win the nomination against 16 other candidates.
When he faced Hillary Clinton in the general election, Trump pummeled her for failing to address the crisis on the southern border.
And when Trump stunned the nation on election night in 2016, he won in large part because of his promises to end illegal immigration, secure the border, and bring an end to the anarchy that has plagued America’s southern states and counties for years under the Obama administration.
But since taking office, the President has struggled to actually get the wall built.
Despite it being the signature issue which propelled him to the top of American politics in the first place, Trump hasn’t been able to get past Democratic obstructionism when it comes to getting the wall built.
And now, a new paper is arguing that not a single mile of new border wall has been constructed since Trump took office.
This is news that could put the President’s path to re-election in serious jeopardy.
The Washington Examiner reports, “The Trump administration has not installed a single mile of new wall in a previously fenceless part of the U.S.-Mexico border in the 30 months since President Trump assumed office, despite his campaign promise to construct a ‘big beautiful wall.’”
If the President can’t point to any progress being made on this front, there’s a chance that his base will become too demoralized to re-elect him next year.
And that’s exactly what Democrats are banking on.
It’s part of the reason they have worked so hard, especially on the part of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, to block the border wall from being funded by Congress.
Democrats know if they can demoralize Trump’s base by preventing his campaign promises from going through, they will have an easier time defeating him in 2020.
“In a statement last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the federal agency overseeing border barrier construction, confirmed that all the fencing completed since Trump took office is ‘in place of dilapidated designs’ because the existing fence was in need of replacement,” adds the Washington Examiner.
“The agency said that it had built 51 miles of steel bollard fence with funding that was set aside during fiscal 2017 and 2018. But while the funding was meant both to replace outdated walls and to place barriers where there previously had been none, the government has only completed the replacement projects. The projects to secure areas with no fence are still in the works.”
Building a wall was the biggest campaign promise of the President’s 2016 bid for the White House.
It’s what defined him as a candidate.
And if it doesn’t get done, there’s good reason to believe that it could be a serious blow to his re-election chances.
